The Presidio ~ an urban National Park

Presidio Lombard Gate
The iconic gateway to San Francisco – the Golden Gate Bridge – delivers you directly onto the Presidio. For 218 years the Presidio served as an army base. As our government downsized the number of military bases, the Presidio emerged as a national park.
The Presidio is absolutely one of my favorite places to visit in San Francisco. Technically part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, it provides many attractions for the whole family. This is a destination where you can enjoy the deep history of the Bay Area, ride a bicycle or take a hike in the woods, picnic at Crissy Field, which once was an airfield, or dine in one of the many restaurants.
It’s a place with many opportunities to stop and enjoy breathtaking views! Check out their web site for specifics! www.presidio.gov
